The main objective of the game is to play through each level and get to the end without losing all your lives. You start off with 4 lives and if you lose them all then you have the option to Continue or go back the Map/Main Menu. While playing you can destroy boxes and collect Wumpa fruit from them to gain lives, you need 100 to get an extra life, also if you destroy all the boxes in a level you get a Gem to go towards your 100% completion. There are 3 islands in which you contest against numerous enemies and bosses while you aim to complete the islands. There are numerous types of levels in this game, water levels, boulder levels, hog levels, machine levels and such, in which the difficulty rises and gets tougher. At the end of the game, you encouter a fierce battle with Neo Cortex where he fires these different colour rays that attack you in different ways. To defeat Cortex, you need to spin back a green ray that he fires at you. After you defeat him, Crash and Tawna are on the blimp where the credits roll.
