Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped is a platform style game and the third installment in the Crash Bandicoot series. It progresses the story arc that began in Crash Bandicoot and continued in Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back.

Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped picks up where the previous game left off. Nitrus Brio's plan to destroy Dr. Neo Cortex's space station was a success. As the space station crashes onto Earth, it lands right onto a mausoleum releasing an evil force later revealed as Uka Uka, Aku Aku's evil twin brother. Cortex, being saved by Uka Uka is forced to join his side. Power Crystals no longer exist. The villains no longer have a power source. A machine called the Time Twister created by Doctor Nefarious Tropy can be used to travel through history, and retreive the Power Crystal from its time. Aku Aku, Crash and Coco heads to the Time Twister and the race to retreive the Power Crystal's before Uka Uka begins.

The gameplay is similar to that of the previous Crash game. In the Time Twister, you are presented with warp rooms which gives you access to 5 levels each. There are 6 warp rooms in the Time Twister, including a hidden one. The warp room shows the items available or already obtained from a level (Crystals, Gems, and Relics). If 5 Crystals from a warp room is obtained, you are able to fight the boss of that warp room and unlock access to the next warp room.
